Although it felt like it took much longer to arrive this year, fall is finally in full swing. With temperatures still ranging anywhere between 50 and 70 degrees in a given week, though, many of us are still struggling to strike the right balance between wearing transitional layers and straight-up sweaters.
With that in mind, I’ve put together a list of my favorite style staples for the season! Hopefully, the below items can help you assemble a fall wardrobe you not only love, but feel like your best self while wearing as well. Enjoy!
If you know me, you know I love layering. Cardigans, jackets, ponchos, scarves — you name it and I probably own (and frequently rave about) it. Albeit basic, I would strongly recommend you invest in at least three of these essentials: one in black, one in grey, and one in white. You would be surprised by how many outfits you can pull together with these pieces, and just how effortlessly chic you’ll look as a result.
Even after watching this trend sweep the fashion scene in late 2016, I was hesitant to bite the bullet and invest in a pair of these statement boots. After all, I’m only a whopping 5’1” in height so, naturally, I assumed I would look like I was drowning in anything that hit above the knee.
However, I decided to step outside of my comfort zone (yikes, no pun intended) after spotting a gorgeous pair of black, faux-suede boots just a few weeks ago. And honestly, I don’t think I could have made a better investment if I tried. Over-the-knee boots are so versatile and add a little flair to even the simplest of get-ups. Definitely buy into this trend if you haven’t already.
While these were a major trend over the summer, I strongly recommend purchasing at least one neutral pair of paper-bag pants for the fall. With a cinched waist and straight legs, these pants are comfortable, flattering, and refined — AKA every professional woman’s dream.
I don’t know about you, but I definitely find myself falling into what I call the “neutral trap” every fall, in that I only wear shades of black, grey, maroon, and olive for approximately three months straight.
In order to break that cycle, I try to incorporate statement pieces into my weekly rotation as much as possible. Some of these bolder items include a gold chenille cardigan, a jewel-toned floral blouse, and a chunky pearl necklace, among others. I encourage you to try out that tactic for yourself, especially if you feel like you’ve been in a bit of a rut lately!
